At recommended doses central opioid effects are minimal. At higher than recommended doses, including misuse to self-treat opioid withdrawal, QT prolongation, torsades de pointes, cardiac arrest and death are reported; risk rises with other QT-prolonging drugs or CYP3A4/P-glycoprotein inhibitors.
