01 Interaction with psilocybin

XP

With DMT, a related psychedelic, pindolol strengthened effects, so it may intensify psilocybin's effects. Separately, stopping it suddenly can worsen chest pain (angina).

Detail Pindolol is a beta-blocker that also blocks serotonin 5-HT1A receptors. In a human pretreatment study, pindolol significantly increased the psychological response to DMT (Strassman 1996). So it may intensify psilocybin's effects; there are no psilocybin data. It may also lessen psilocybin's heart-rate and blood pressure rise. Separately, abrupt stopping can worsen angina (chest pain). Behav Brain Res 1996;73(1-2):121–124. — Abstract: "To assess the role of the 5-HT1A site in mediating DMT's effects, a pindolol pre-treatment study was performed. Pindolol significantly increased psychological responses to DMT, suggesting a buffering effect of 5-HT1A agonism on 5-HT2-mediated psychedelic effects."
